Gas relay (also known as gas relay) is a protective device used by the transformer. It is installed in the pipeline between the oil conservator and the oil tank of the transformer. When the internal fault of the transformer decomposes the oil to produce gas or causes oil flow surge, the contact of the gas relay acts, connects the specified control circuit, and sends out signal alarm (light gas) in time Or start the protection element to automatically cut off the transformer (heavy gas).

Light gas is mainly reflected in operation or slight fault. The gas decomposed by oil rises into the gas relay, the air pressure decreases the oil level, the open cup of the relay falls with the oil level, and the light gas dry spring contact is connected to send a signal. When there is too much gas in the light gas, the gas can be discharged by the gas nozzle of the gas relay.

The heavy gas is mainly reflected in the strong gas generated by the serious internal fault of the transformer (especially the fault that other transformer protection cannot act quickly such as inter turn short circuit) to push the oil flow to impact the baffle. The magnet on the baffle attracts the heavy gas dry spring contact to make the contact connected and trip.

The gas relay is divided into on load gas relay (the radius of oil pipe is generally 50mm or 80mm) and body gas relay (the radius of oil pipe is generally 80mm). There are different models of gas relay, such as float type, baffle type, open cup type and so on. For example, the signal circuit of qj-80 relay is connected to the open cup, and the tripping circuit is connected to the lower baffle. The so-called gas protection signal action means that the signal circuit contact of the upper open cup in the relay is closed and the light plate light is on due to various reasons.
